The name 'Funambol' is derived from the Italian word 'funambolo' which means tightrope walker. The company chose a tightrope walker as a symbol of its confidence and steadfastness in addressing difficult challenges.

Funambol's sole focus as a white-label provider is to make other companies and their brands look good. Funambol solutions are selected due to their best-in-class capabilities, flexibility, robust APIs and the company's extensive mobile expertise. Funambol goes to market with a B2B2C approach, providing its solution to companies who offer a personal cloud service to end users. These companies include mobile operators, device makers and content providers.
A personal cloud service must be easy-to-use and achieving this in a world with many moving parts requires extensive interaction with and coordination of numerous technologies and organizations. Funambol has established partnerships with key companies to enable its solution to operate smoothly. Amit Chawla is CEO of Funambol, the leading provider of white-label personal cloud solutions for billions of phones and connected devices. Amit has an extensive background of executive leadership and operational excellence in the mobile industry, most recently as CEO of enterprise mobility specialist Agito Networks, which was acquired by ShoreTel [NASDAQ: SHOR]. Prior to Agito, Amit was CEO of NexVerse Networks, where he spearheaded the merger with a division of ECI Telecom to form Veraz Networks which was listed on the NASDAQ in 2007. Amit's deep experience with worldwide carrier and Global 2000 enterprise communications products included several leadership positions at Nortel Networks. Fabrizio Capobianco is President and Chairman of the Board of Funambol. He has extensive expertise in the mobile industry, with work experience that includes Reuters and Tibco. He is a successful entrepreneur, having founded several Italian high tech companies. Fabrizio has a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Pavia, Italy, with a focus on usability. He has been recognized as a top '40 under 40' high tech leader and mobile visionary. He writes a blog that was voted among the best in the industry by FierceWireless.

VP ENGINEERING AND ENGINEERING SERVICES

Stefano Fornari is head of Engineering and related services at Funambol. Prior to his development role at Funambol, Fornari was chief architect at Stigma Online where he played a key role in the development of the company’s flagship portal product, SolWeb Intra. He has also held positions at Compaq, where he was an advisor on wireless technologies in PDAs, and at Art Technology Group (ATG) as a consultant. He holds an M.S. in Computer Science.

CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

Alberto Onetti acts as Chief Financial Officer. He has over 15 years of experience in the corporate finance field as consultant for leading banking groups and multinational companies. Alberto holds a Ph.D. in corporate strategy and a Master degree in International Finance. He is Professor of management and entrepreneurship at the Department of Economics of the Insubria University.

VICE PRESIDENT, PRODUCT MANAGEMENT

Ata Rasekhi is responsible for market research, definition and delivery of Funambol's mobile open source platform and products. Rasekhi brings with him 16 years of product management and product marketing experience and a proven track record of building and launching industry-leading software products. Prior to Funambol, Rasekhi was the Director of Product Management at Scalix, a leading provider of email and collaboration software for Linux and open systems. Before Scalix, Rasekhi ran a successful consulting firm delivering product management and marketing services to various high profile startups. Prior to consulting, Rasekhi held senior product management and product marketing positions at Remedy, Lotus Development, and cc:Mail. He holds a B.S. degree in Computer Science from University of California, Santa Barbara.

VICE PRESIDENT, WORLDWIDE MARKETING AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Hal Steger is Vice President of Worldwide Marketing and Business Development at Funambol. He has more than 20 years of marketing and business development experience at high-growth, innovative global software companies. Prior to Funambol, he was responsible for worldwide marketing at Scalix, a leading provider of open systems messaging solutions. Before Scalix, Steger co-founded and was VP Marketing of Rubric, where he positioned the company as the leader of the new category of Marketing Automation solutions. Rubric was acquired for $370M. Prior to Rubric, Hal held product management and product marketing positions at Oracle, Uniface/Compuware, and other high profile Silicon Valley companies. He holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan with a double major in Computer Science and Economics, and an M.S.I.A. (MBA) degree from Carnegie-Mellon's Tepper School of Business (formerly GSIA).

John Kim
John Kim

H.I.G. Growth Partners

As Managing Director at H.I.G. Growth Partners, John focuses primarily on Internet, media and technology investments. He currently serves on the boards of Batanga, Escalate Media, Funambol, Locaid, REVShare, RxStrategies and SpotXchange and formerly served on the board of Triad Retail Media. Previously, John was a co-founder, interim CEO and board director of Cooligy, a semiconductor cooling manufacturer started by three Stanford professors, backed by top-tier venture capital firms and acquired by Emerson Electric (NYSE:EMR). He also was the COO of a 100+ person eCommerce portal, General Manager of a semiconductor equipment manufacturer and Business Development Director at a product development software company. He began his career at Booz, Allen & Hamilton where he consulted on operations strategy to Fortune 500 companies. John received an M.S. and B.S. with Phi Beta Kappa honors in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University and an M.B.A. degree with distinction from Harvard Business School.

An industry veteran with extensive investment and operational experience, Nina Saberi founded Castile to bring capital, deep industry expertise and hands-on management experience to a new generation of entrepreneurial businesses. Under her leadership, Castile has grown to be ranked among the most active and respected VC firms in New England. Ms. Saberi has an investment focus on cloud-based services, networking and ecommerce infrastructure. She is currently the chair at VGo Communications and Whaleback Managed Services and serves on the boards of Agiliance, Aurora Networks, Connotate and Funambol. Ms. Saberi joined the venture community as a general partner at OneLiberty Ventures. Prior to OneLiberty Ventures, Ms. Saberi was president and CEO of venture-backed Netlink, acquired by Cabletron as one of the top three acquisitions of its year. During her operating career, she successfully led Amnet to its acquisition, managed an international joint venture for Data General and Singapore Telecom and held executive marketing and engineering positions at BBN and Avanti Communications.

NEXIT VENTURES

Michel Wendell has 25 years of experience in launching and managing international Infocom companies. By advising successful start-ups and billion-dollar market leaders in Finland, Sweden, France and the United States, Mr. Wendell has gained a thorough understanding of the changing dynamics of globalizing markets and rapidly developing technologies. His extensive network of contacts in Silicon Valley, where he resides, is a significant resource to Nexit's portfolio companies. Before co-founding Nexit Ventures, Mr. Wendell served as Vice President of Business Development at Cadence Design Systems. He founded EuroVAR, a European-wide network of Windows based EDA solution distributors, and was VP Europe for OrCAD, Inc., a leading PC based design tool vendor.
