FOSTER CITY, Calif., and KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA, May 30, 2012 -- Funambol, the leading provider of white-label personal cloud solutions for mobile providers, and Maxis, the leading integrated communications service provider in Malaysia, today announced the launch of the Maxis Loker, a cloud storage service based on Funambol OneMediaHub, for all its customers. Maxis Loker lets users wirelessly sync rich media, files and personal data across smartphones, tablets and computers via the cloud and with social networks, online media sites and email systems.
Loker includes 5G of free storage per person and allows users to purchase additional storage. Unlike services such as Apple iCloud that primarily support one brand of device, the Maxis personal cloud services multiple brands, allowing users to access their digital content and data across diverse devices. "Funambol is pleased that Maxis Loker is using OneMediaHub to let their customers secure, sync and share digital content across mobile devices via the cloud," said Amit Chawla, Funambol CEO. "Carriers are seeing the importance of Funambol's white-labeling for storing user data in their own branded cloud, to build customer loyalty, reduce churn and generate new revenue streams."
"Recent trends have shown that Malaysians are one of the most active in sharing their experiences online using pictures and videos, and Maxis customers have led the way in this area, said T. Kugan, Maxis' Head of Product, Device, Innovation & Roaming. "With the launch of Loker, loyal Maxis customers now enjoy a simpler, safer way of keeping more of their personal data and content within easy reach without the limitations of physical storage on their devices. This is a true testament of our commitment to continuously enrich their lives."
Maxis is the first major telco in Southeast Asia to deploy a personal cloud service for all its customers. It differs from other third-party personal cloud services in three important respects. Maxis Loker leverages Funambol's white-labeling to convey the Maxis brand. The service supports multiple devices and types of content, rather than just a single brand of device and only files. It is also highly flexible to be readily adapted for different user needs and market opportunities, in contrast to personal cloud services that are unchangeable.
