REDWOOD CITY, Calif., December 2, 2010 -- Funambol, the open source mobile cloud company, today announced that Amit Chawla has been appointed CEO to expand the company's global footprint with carriers and enterprises. Former CEO Fabrizio Capobianco will assume the positions of President and Chairman of the Board, where he will focus on the company's strategic direction and partnerships. Amit has an extensive background of executive leadership and operational excellence in the mobile industry, most recently as CEO of enterprise mobility specialist Agito Networks, which was acquired by ShoreTel [NASDAQ: SHOR].

Prior to Funambol, he was CEO of Agito Networks, where he guided the firm from an early stage startup to a successful acquisition. As CEO of NexVerse Networks, Amit spearheaded the merger with a division of ECI Telecom to form Veraz Networks which was listed on the NASDAQ in 2007. Amit has also held leadership positions at Nortel Networks.
