REDWOOD CITY, Calif., May 14, 2008 -- Funambol, the leading provider of Mobile 2.0 messaging software powered by open source, today announced that it has enhanced its free myFUNAMBOL Portal to automatically sync calendar events to the Dash Express, the first Internet-connected navigation system. This enables people to access their calendars from virtually any source, including Outlook, online services and mobile devices, on Dash Express, then route to meetings. The new service eliminates the need to manually enter destinations into the GPS making it easy for people to keep track of appointments and arrive on time. The service will be available tomorrow.
"I've been using Dash Express in my car for a while and the ability to wirelessly push information to it from my desktop is really cool," said Fabrizio Capobianco, Funambol CEO. "I thought, why not push my calendar appointments to it? We integrated myFUNAMBOL with the MyDash portal so that Dash drivers can now easily access their calendars, get driving directions and check traffic conditions on the way to meetings."
Here's how it works. Say you use Outlook (or another email client, online service or mobile phone) to manage your calendar. The calendar can be auto-synced to the myFUNAMBOL Portal. Once in the portal, calendar events are instantly pushed to your Dash Express via the MyDash portal.. For events with a specified address, Dash provides driving directions, traffic conditions and alternate routes around traffic jams. This eliminates the manual entry of destinations into the navigation system. Just grab your Dash Express and you will know all your appointments and the smartest way to get to them.
"We're focused on helping commuters solve their problems in the car on a daily basis," said Chris Butler, content evangelist at Dash Navigation. "The myFUNAMBOL feature is a perfect fit as it helps our road warrior customers quickly get from meeting to meeting with ease."
Users need a free myFUNAMBOL account, available at http://my.funambol.com and a MyDash account, which they get at http://www.dash.net. Once these accounts are set up, users just log into MyDash, search for the Funambol service and once found, click to configure it and follow simple instructions. From that point forward, their myFUNAMBOL calendar information is always updated and available on their Dash system.
