BARCELONA, Spain, February 13, 2006 — Funambol, the mobile open source software company, today announced it will demonstrate the first open source push email solution, Funambol v3, at 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona February 13 through February 16, 2006. Funambol v3, announced last week, allows customers to deploy this year’s “killer app” — push email — to the widest range of mobile phones and will be on display at Funambol’s booth located in exhibit hall 1, booth D160.
“Since the beta release of Funambol v3 less than a week ago, we have experienced a large spike in the number of downloads and pricing requests for the product and are eager to share the product with attendees at the world’s largest telecommunications event,” said Fabrizio Capobianco, CEO of Funambol. “Operators, developers, mobile email users, device manufacturers – everyone wants to know how they can use Funambol v3 in their networks and on their devices.”
Funambol is the open source software implementation of SyncML, the Open Mobile Alliance standard for data synchronization supported by more than 300 vendors. The mobile device marketplace is unique in its mass proliferation of device types, and existing proprietary mobile email solutions only scratch the surface when it comes to testing and addressing the broad range of devices in this market. Open source software and open standards increase compatibility across devices and carriers. Funambol will help put mobile email on nearly every device – from the smartphone to the commoditized mobile phone.
Funambol is the mobile open source company. Funambol's Mobile Application Server offers "push" email, multimaster PIM synchronization, and management facilities for mobile devices. Funambol (formerly known as Sync4j) is an open source development platform for mobile applications that has been downloaded more than any other wireless middleware product — 250,000 times. The commercial version has been deployed at wireless carriers, Fortune 100 enterprises, hardware OEMs/ODMs and ISVs including customers such as Computer Associates. Funambol is headquartered in Redwood City, California with a development center in Italy. See www.funambol.com.
