Funambol Shines in Latest Industry SyncML Compatibility Tests

Open Mobile Alliance’s TestFest Focused on Interoperability for Advanced Mobile Services

REDWOOD CITY, California — February 6, 2006 — Funambol, the mobile open source software company, today announced the availability of the test results from its participation in the OMA TestFest in Montreal, Canada. The tests, run with membership of the Open Mobile AllianceTM during late January, are designed to confirm interoperability among implementations of advanced data services from the 300 member vendors. This year’s TestFest focused on the new features of SyncML 1.2, which expands the functionality of data synchronization to include push email.

OMA is the leading industry forum for developing market driven, interoperable mobile service enablers. The TestFest is held annually for companies to verify and test the interoperability among their product implementations. Funambol’s server tested with all of the SyncML 1.2 data synchronization (DS) clients, and passed all of the OMA’s mandatory tests. In previous years, Funambol’s server has verified its compatibility in the tests with the industry’s v1.1.2 DS clients, and with the industry’s leading device management (DM) clients as well.

During the tests, Funambol was running a pre-release build of its flagship Funambol v3 server. That product, which is now in beta, provides push email, contact & calendar synchronization, and device management features compatible with over 800 million phones in use today.

The SyncML (OMA DS/DM) standards have been endorsed by more than 300 device manufacturers, carriers, and software vendors, and is implemented in more than 75 percent of the mobile handsets now on the market. In total, nearly 1 billion handsets will be compatible with OMA DS/DM by the end of this year.

This year’s test report is available for download from Funambol’s website. For those interested in performing their own compatibility tests, the test certification suite is open source and available for download from www.sourceforge.com/projects/oma-scts.
