Steve Jobs blew it?
The day after the the launch of the iPhone I really felt alone... I wrote a negative post about it (actually, two), while everyone else was writing great reviews. Now the pendulum has swung...In one comment on Computerworld, Mike Elgan went all the way. The journalist simply said "Steve Jobs blew it". Here are his reasons:
- Jobs raised buyer expectations too high.
- Jobs raised Wall Street expectations too high.
- Jobs gave competitors a head start.
- Jobs undermined Apple TV hype.
- Jobs put iPod sales at risk.
- Jobs wrecked Cisco talks.

It is a half/half sort of thing. I don't think that Jobs has necessarily blown it quite yet. What might blow it is:
* Lack of developer APIs. If you don't allow others to improve on your ideas (in this case, building software that you have not built), then well, your ideas will fail.
* Definition of a smartphone. There looks like there are many conflicting definitions, and many seem to say that the iPhone is not a smartphone. I think it is more of a media phone. My Treo, on the other hand is a smartphone. If Apple does not create a public developer API, then this device will never be able to do "everything."
Those are just a few ideas.
