Systems Engineer
Professional Services Department (Pavia, IT)

This position is on our Professional Services team. It provides pre-sales and post-sales support to prospects, customers and partners. In addition, you could be responsible for small and medium development and integration projects. We are looking for a self-starter with a good sense of humor who enjoys working with people. You must be able to juggle at least three to four medium sized projects and adapt quickly to changing priorities. This is great opportunity for someone in a pure engineering (QA/DEV/SUPPORT) role to use their skills but to get good experience working directly with customers. That said, this is definitely a technical position.
Responsibilities
- Provide top-notch client management, including excellent communications, responsive follow through and advocacy for client issues
- Prioritize problem reports of varying severity and manage resolution of all issues within accepted service levels
- Collaborate with peers e.g. engineering, product management and our community, to resolve client issues while actively contributing to a growing knowledgebase
- Light customization, integration and development
- Systems administration of production systems and servers
- Systems and performance testing
Requirements
(You will be tested for these)
- Working knowledge of Java
- At least 1-2 years experience in one or more of: Enterprise technical support; QA; Systems administration; Engineering/Development; Operations/IT
- Hands-on experience with *nix environments
- Solid troubleshooting: ability to analyze customer problems and diagnose problems
- Familiarity with web/app servers (Apache, Tomcat, WebLogic, JBOSS, WebSphere, etc.)
- Familiarity with web presentation technologies (HTML, JavaScript, Flash, FLEX, AJAX, etc.)
- Good spoken communication and written skills - we don’t need Barack Obama or Frank McCourt, but you need to be comfortable talking to people and writing intelligible documents
Good to Have’s/Pluses:
- Programming experience with Perl/C++/other languages
- Database server experience
- Open source project experience
- Build/release/porting experience (Eclipse, Ant, etc.)
- Project management chops
