Server Java Developer

We are looking for a number of Java Developers to join our Server and Portal Teams. The candidate must have good knowledge of OOP, Java and preferably C++, and a genuine enthusiasm for software development. This is a unique opportunity to work for a fast growing Open Source project.
Required Education and Experience
Various degrees of education and experience will be considered provided the applicant's experience demonstrates the following requirements:
- Bachelor of Computer Science or Engineering degree
- 2 or more years experience in OO design and Java/C++ development
- Experience developing commercial software
- Experience developing open source software
- Experience in developing complex server side applications
Responsibilities
- Design and develop robust, maintainable and scalable server applications based on internet protocols (IMAP/POP/SMTP/SyncML)
- Maintain and improve existing software
- Deliver code, test cases and documentation on time with in-house quality standards
- Design and perform performance tests aimed to identify and solve performance and scalability issues
Skills/Abilities/Knowledge/Personal Suitability
- Good server side Java development knowledge
- Good knowledge of object-oriented design techniques
- Good level of English
- 2+ years relevant work experience
- Very good understanding of Internet protocols, in particular IMAP, POP, SMTP, SyncML
- Good understanding of server side Java performance issues
The following is considered a plus:
- C++
- Unix/Linux experience
- Open source development experience (please specify the project you contributed to)
Additional Information
This position is preferably in Pavia, Italy (near Milan), but remote employees will be considered too. Full time contract; salary proportioned to the candidate skills + bonus + stock options.
